11/30/2023 0 Comments Adjustable cam gearThe aerospace companies and medical device manufacturers I worked for all just paid the bills while I worked in experimental psych. If you aren't picky about doing psychology. Had my hands on the best tooling and equipment from the Navy, Air Force, Hanford contractors, Boeing, and local businesses. Try an automotive class or at least a book, because any time you change the distance from the cam to the crank and leave the belt or chain the same length you are changing the cam timing. And I once was a metrologist managing the West Coast's premier metrology lab north of LA. Re: adjustable cam gear - how much to compensate for a 0.030' head shave (john green) Wrong answer. UPS is bringing me (another) new crankshaft today, along with a multiple bore gauge set. So your pics are a good step towards that goal. I feel like I'm ripping off people's time if I just ask a question to get an answer without leaving behind useful information for others to find in years to come. If not, then the only way forward is to use a degree wheel. I have an idea as to how to adequately mark TDC on the adjustable gear without resorting to a degree wheel. I'll do as he did, and use titanium washers and fasteners. They may all be made in china and all be cheap junk. Looks like the best one is $100 and comes from Japan. Don't want one like t3ragtop has with the funky etched graduations (in the post I referred to). I've been looking for the best cam gears I can find. Even TeamSwift didn't have a post that answered the question. Pics would make this thread the definitive answer to the question. A yes or no would be good enough for me, though. Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't.īut thanks freegeo, for taking pics. I'm back to not having a 'quote' button any more. Anyone know about the adjustable gear on the G10? In any event, I really, really want a pretty blue (or red) adjustable cam gear on this new G10 even if I use a stock cam. Already running a lightened 4cyl flywheel and 3Tech valve springs - with a stock cam. Too bad they aren't available any longer. The 3Tech cams never required inserts that I know of.Īny comments on using a performance cam on an otherwise stock (but tightly built) engine? Been watching lots of youtube vids and I like the power band up over 5000 rpm with those 3Tech cams. But John tells me that I'd have to use inserts for the valve stems if they were to do a performance grind with higher lift. Delta is in my back yard, so to speak, and they will make me a cam with any spec I wish. I have a Delta econo cam but have never used it. Now I want one of those fancy adjustable gears so that I can dial in the amount of advance I want to use.Īlso thinking about using something other than a stock cam. Problem is, that gear never made me happy since the newly drilled hole is too loose on the cam's dowel pin. And now I'm thinking of using the 10 degree gear that I got from 3Tech many years ago. It will take weeks or months for the machine work to be complete. My ongoing rebuild saga is marching along. So I'm thinking, maybe one of the gears for a G13B dual-cam engine might fit? They are all over ebay. I'm seeing pics of G10 3cyl engines with very nice anodized adjustable timing gears installed.
